The first day of wheat harvest 2010 on the home farm. Wheat harvest is one of the busiest times of year for the farm, we are in a rush to get the wheat crop harvested and double crop soybeans planted. Harvest usually starts the third week of June and our goal is to have the crop cut and the soybeans planted by the 4rth of July. Our Kinze planters are equiped with no-till coulters and row cleaners to remove the wheat straw and residue out of the path of the seed discs to help ensure good seed to soil contact during a time of year when moisture can be very limiting. The tractor pictured next to the combine is pulling a grain cart. The combine off loads the crop on the go into the cart so production never stops. When the grain cart is full it is then off loaded onto semi trailers that take the grain to market or to our on farm storage bins.
